Established in 1988, Brill has been manufacturing and marketing shoes for nearly 50 years. In 1999, the Bouskila and Ganzi families acquired control of Brill, which is traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, and also purchased Gali, established in 1975, which was Israel’s best known shoe brand. Gali became a part of Brill’s subsidiary, Shoestreet Ltd. In 2000, Brill acquired Dafna, another leading retail chain of shoe stores, through its subsidiary Airsport Ltd. On January 1, 2003, all these activities were consolidated into Brill Shoe Industries, with the subsidiaries disbanded.

The Gali network of 70 shoe stores stretches from Kiryat Shmona in the north to Eilat in the south. These stores offer value-for-money shoes at wholesale prices in a retail environment. The stores emphasize customer service, and range in size from 200 – 300 square meters in shopping malls to 450 – 1,000 square meters in power centers. The largest Gali store is a 1,200 square meter outlet in Rishon LeZion.

Gali stores offer every type of shoe imaginable, from classic and conservative styles through to fashion and dress shoes, sports, hiking and working shoes, boots and sandals, and casualwear and slippers. The company has shoes for all ages, from infants, children and teenagers through to men and women of all ages. In total, the Brill product range encompasses several thousand shoes of all price ranges, specially suited to the local market. Some of the largest stores stock more than a thousand different models.

In addition to Gali, Brill is the exclusive representative in Israel of some of the world’s leading shoe manufacturers and best-known brand names. These include: Caterpillar, Hush-Puppies, Coleman, Barbie, Spalding, Dockers, Filanto, Brill, Winnie-The-Pooh and Lee Cooper. Brill is also the sole importer and distributor of Spalding shoes and sports clothes.

Brill manufactures a range of Gali shoes at its state-of-the-art plant in Rishon LeZion. In addition, the company also produces under license the shoes of Hush-Puppies. This enables Brill to combine the advanced technologies and know-how of the Hush-Puppies brand with design and prices that are suitable for the Israeli market.

Gali is especially strong in the children’s shoes sector in Israel where it has a market share of 35%. In the men’s and women’s shoes sectors, it has a market share of 10% and in this area Brill expects to see rapid growth in the coming years.

In 2004, Brill began manufacturing a new military shoe as part of its contract with the IDF. The new shoe is the most technologically advanced model in the world, combining two types of rubber with differing densities. At the start of 2004, Brill began managing all the shop-in-shop shoe departments in the new Hamashbir Lezarchan department store chain. At the end of 2004, Brill acquired the Solog clothes franchise, and is entering the textiles sector as of 2005. These new activities will help contribute to Brill's continuing growth as a leader in Israel's shoe and clothing market.

Marching armies into the future
Since 2001 Brill has become the exclusive manufacturer of military boots for Israel Defense Forces. The Brill combat boot is a result of 3 years of intensive development in collaboration with the IDF Research and Development experts.
The process of creating the no.1 combat boot for one of the best and most experienced military forces in the world involved various elite combat troops, numerous lab tests and field experiments which tested human physiology and foot structure to insure a perfect fit.
